Howard Finkelson creates images that are a world between painting and photography. The exploration of the textures of our planet is the core of his photo art. Photographed in the process of their aging, fading, peeling abrading and rusting these images are then cropped, enlarged and stretched onto linen-weave canvas using archival pigment printing. The results are unselfconscious, interpretable abstract images.
Finkelson has exhibited worldwide at galleries, theaters and in notable collections with appearances at art and film festivals in Rome, Florence, Hong Kong, Seoul, Brisbane and Panama. Locally, Howard has exhibited at Bard College, Kaatsbaan International Dance Center, The Asian Art Center and Hunter College.
Videos of his collaboration with dance-theater performances can be seen on YouTube: "Form is Emptiness"(with acclaimed Korean performer/choreographer, Sun Ock Lee and "Parallel Worlds" a semi biopic made in China.
