Carved Sturgeon Platter
This hand built piece has feet that present it nicely on the table. Once constructed the image is sketched on and carved in relief. After the first firing I stain the piece with Barnard slip to accentuate the carved relief detail.

Glass Eels
The Glass eels are protected and swim up the Hudson every spring. I have helped to count and track them. This hand built dish has small feet to hold it up nicely on the table. I sketch the image into the clay and and hand carve the image in relief.

Glass Eels Vase
This vessel was wheel thrown with porcelain clay. Once trimmed I spend some time drawing out the designs on the surface. The Glass Eels are a species that is protected in the Hudson River and are collected and counted and returned to the river each spring. They are a delicacy in many places but protected here. Once the design is decided I cover the vase with blue slip clay and then carve through the clay to leave the image on the surface.

Glyphic Jade Garden Platter
This hand built platter has a nice curve to hold the tasty morsels and carved triangular feet that hold it up nicely off of the table for presentation. Once the platter is constructed I sketch the design onto the surface and it is carved in relief. Barnard stain is rubbed in to bring out the textures before it is glazed.
