Aleph~Before Man
This was great fun to paint. I had a feeling of joy as I was painting, loving the creative energized movement of the Hebrew letter Aleph — as it moves with great agility forward. Aleph, the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet, embodies creative force. It is the very first sound that G-d uttered as Moses stood on Mt. Sinai to receive the Commandments.

Alpaca Shaman
Alpaca Shaman is one of a series of Alpaca paintings/collages that I have made. I am amused by the haughtiness and apparent self- containment of the Alpaca. Here the Alpaca presents an entrance into a magical world, the very real world of the shaman, just beyond the veil of reality.

Alpaca Wedding Party
What can I say? I love watching Alpacas and Llamas, for their sublime indifference, and their direct aim when annoyed. Some of them have buck teeth and look adorably comical.
Here they are celebrating the wedding of their relative.

Bird Man
Ancient civilizations often portrayed beings that were part man, part bird. And of course angels are represented as human figures with wings. My own dreams and visions often bring me into contact with unusual bird beings who periodically bring gifts. They appear at the portals to other worlds, speaking volumes with their silence. Often they impart wisdom.

Birthday of a Boy King
I don’t know why I painted this. I don’t remember being inspired by anything. It was just an image that came — a boy King in the early days of his reign –full of light and promise, secure in his Divine Right, the total confidence that he could never make a mistake.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
I know that many are repulsed by spiders. But there are many different types of spiders, and while some are venomous, others are benign. And while some are hairy and scary looking, others are not. And while some construct run of the mill webs, others construct marvels of architecture.
I ran across a photo of a red/orange spider with black eyes and toenails, who was very ladylike, elegant and refined: a Jackie Kennedy of spiders –quite frankly charming, and to my mind quite pretty.
I wanted to honor her, and those others who inhabit an unknown world. This is is the painting that came.
I imagine her going out with the ladies for tea, or preparing for a night on the town with her beau.
Here is a quote from one of my poems: “The consciousness of a spider is wider than its web.”

Lost Worlds
The painting was inspired by an image from ancient Egypt, which served as a taking off point for me. Brush in hand, my imagination took me into an undersea lost world, covered by centuries of coral and barnacle, and drifting, inaccessible, at the bottom of the ocean floor, along with the hopes and dreams of legions of explorers.
I would love for the new owner of this piece to dream with me, and touch the power and magic of lost civilizations, to sense the fragility and tenderness….a tenderness that is captured by the flow of watercolor, and the ease with which the medium tells a vibrant moving story.

Super Mom
We’ve all been here –trying to perform too many roles, fulfill too many expectations, driving ourselves crazy. I hope people will stop, pause, breathe, and remember their essence.

Turtles All The Way Down
The Native American word for North America is Turtle Island.
In Hindu mythology, the turtle carries the world on his back, upholding earth and sea –the foundation of the Universe.
“Turtles all the way down” is based on a mythological idea that the earth is supported by a Turtle. This turtle rests on the back of another turtle, which in turn rests on the back of another etc etc…turtles continue indefinitely and infinitely “all the way down”.
